Prince Nasamu Alhassan

I'm a Data Scientist and NLP Researcher from Bawku, Upper East Ghana — and a native Kusaal speaker. When I searched for machine translation tools for my language in 2025, I found nothing open. I assembled a 34,568-pair Kusaal-English parallel corpus from three sources — GhanaNLP translations, YouVersion Bible alignments, and Wikipedia — then fine-tuned Meta's NLLB-200 on it. Result: BLEU 27.57 Kusaal→English, 13.72 English→Kusaal. The dataset and model are published on HuggingFace (PrinceAlhassanNasamu) and affiliated with GhanaNLP. That's how I think about data science — as infrastructure for communities that don't have it yet.
